Airborne at last

For our Wedding Anniversary in 2003, Catherine got me a trial flying lesson at Manx Flyers Aero Club. I got to fly round the island in the Cessna 172H G-CCCC for an hour. Spurred on by this event, I wanted to fly more, but finanicial considerations meant this would not be possible at £140 per hour.

However, the next weekend, I went to see Andreas Gliding Club. After a few weeks of bad weather, I had a trial flight in the motorglider, a SDZ 45A “Ogar”. A couple of weeks later, I had a winch launch in the L-13, “Boggles the Blanik”.

This was just what I needed. An economical way to learn to fly with a friendly bunch of people. I’ve been flying at Andreas ever since, whenever the weather is suitable.
